As we learned in class, the Prophet (SAWS) told us  the best charity to give is water to those in need.

As a way to implement this concept in real life, and apply something we learned, we have set a class goal to come together and build at least one water well. We hope this will bring benefit to those in need, testify for us on the Day of Judgement, and set a beautiful example for all future classes in putting knowledge into action.

Sadaqah Jariyah literally translates from its original Arabic as "flowing," or "running" (jariyah) "charity" (sadaqah), meaning charity that one gives in life that continues to provide charitable benefit to its designated recipients after its donor passes away from this life. It is commonly called “ongoing charity,” “perpetual charity,” or “running (as in a river) charity.” The phrase “ever-flowing charity” reflects this type of charity’s special capacity to reach both recipients and giver after the donor’s death.

At Zakat Foundation of America, these donations are typically channeled into water wells and hand pumps, mosques, or community centers.

The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, famously said:

“When a human being dies, all one’s deeds cease, save three: a Sadaqah Jariyah, [religious] knowledge [one leaves behind] from which others benefit, and a righteous child who prays for one” (Muslim).
