Urgent Need for a Safe Home

On March 1st, 2019 help us open a safe home for Muslim women and children in Calgary. This will be the fourth Nisa Homes in Canada, but the only home for Muslim women and their children who are seeking safety from abuse, homelessness, poverty or seeking asylum in Calgary.

Why open a Nisa Homes in Calgary?

There is currently no facility that specifically caters to Muslim women and their children seeking shelter. The Alberta Council on Women's Shelters state that 22,000 women and children were denied shelter across Alberta because of overcapacity in 2016-2017. Of that number, an alarming 13,000 of them returned to their previous situation. There isn't enough space. In addition, current homes for women fleeing violence in Calgary report as many as 40% of their clients being Muslim. 

Abu Hurairah reported that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “He who removes from a believer a difficulty of this world, Allah will remove one of his troubles on the Day of Judgement.” (Muslim)

Our Goal for the Calgary Home

Insha’Allah, we plan to open a transitional home in Calgary by March 1st, 2019, but in order to do that we need to raise $60,000. This covers the startup and operational cost for 6 months. We have raised $15000 through previous campaigns and private donations so far. 

About Nisa Homes

1 in 5 women in Canada experience some form of abuse in an intimate relationship. The government provided shelters are often overcrowded and sometimes even unsafe. As a result, many women end up staying with their abuser out of desperation. Born out of this need, Nisa Homes is the first group of transitional homes (temporary shelter) for Muslim women and their children in Canada. We currently operate three homes across Canada in: Mississauga, ON, Windsor, ON and Surrey, BC. We provide a safe place and assistance for at least three months, as these women overcome trauma and homelessness. Our goal is to support and empower women to regain the confidence, means and ability to lead a successful, independent, and self-sufficient life. 

Services We Offer:

• Basic necessities including food, shelter and clothing
  
• Case management to assist in securing employment, housing and independence
• Mental health support & confidential counselling
• Holistic support with a focus on spiritual, psychological and emotional wellbeing
• Educational programs, activities & support groups
  
• Referrals
• Financial assistance
